How Can You Help? Crochet/Knit Charity Drives 2011
I'll keep adding to this list but here are some really terrific sites to consider this holiday season (and throughout the year!)
RED SCARF PROJECT
Foster Care to Success gratefully thanks the thousands of knitters and crocheters nationwide who make our Red Scarf Project such a success. We put the first red scarves into Valentine’s Day Care Packages in 2005. That year we received 3,500 scarves to send to FCS students away at colleges and vocational schools. The next year, thanks to the support of online needle-arts blog sites, such as Now Norma Knits, we received an amazing 15,000 scarves. And the program just keeps growing.
We accept scarves from September 1 to December 15 each year.
PINK SLIPPER PROJECT
This year (2011) we're doing it again. Since we're getting such a late start I've already chosen a shelter in Maine (near Rachel) and then will add general gender and ages for our local shelters. We will find a welcome home for every single stocking and then some! This is one of our favorite challenges!
We'll also provide slippers and care kits for the moms this year. We have a lot to do in 6 weeks! (READ MORE ON THEIR WEBSITE!)
SPECIAL OLYMPICS SCARF PROJECT
Welcome to the 2012 Special Olympics USA Scarf Project!
Handmade scarves donated as a result of the 2012 Special Olympics USA Scarf Project will be a symbol of unity, support, compassion and empowerment, as the Special Olympics athletes, coaches, families, volunteers and supporters wear them with pride in knowing they have become part of the Special Olympics family.
Krochet Kids - changing the world!
Check out Krochet Kids and their current projects! They are an awesome group of guys, for sure!
60 Scarves in 60 Days Challenge - Ravelry Group
2011 marks the EIGHTH annual "60 Scarves in 60 Days Challenge" that orginated on CrochetWithDee's blog. All scarves are pledged to charity and are made from September to the end of November.
